The bible is very clear about the things that make women attractive. Contrary to modern day world views that place attractiveness on body and facial structure. The article explores biblical descriptions of attractiveness as a basis for analyzing attractive female characters. The article will conclude by providing ways to become an attractive woman in society.
1. What Makes Women Attractive?
Scripture is unequivocal about what makes a woman attractive. Paul writes that women should not draw attention by what they wear or through cosmetic enhancements like hairstyles and excessive jewelry.
But should make themselves attractive by the good things they do (1 Timothy 2:10). Therefore, attractiveness is marked by doing good things in the Kingdom of God. Below are some examples of biblical female figures who showed their attractiveness by doing good things.
It must be clarified that Paul did not suggest that women should appear unkempt to avoid attracting attention.
Instead, he promoted a modest appearance that does not emphasize their outward beauty. The focus should be on the good deeds they perform, which ultimately defines a woman’s attractiveness.
2. Examples Of An Attractive Woman
2.1 Ruth
The book of Ruth recounts how a Moabite woman decided to follow her mother-in-law, when both their husbands died. She went to a foreign land, adopted the customs of the Israelites and vowed that the God of Naomi will be her God.
What stands out is that she was young and was free from any obligation to take care nor travel to Israel with Naomi yet she shunned the option of returning to her mother’s home and potentially finding a new husband.
Upon her return, the noble act of caring for her mother-in-law without any obligation, especially at her young age, garnered significant attention. This selfless deed caught the eye and favor of Boaz.
In Ruth 2:11, Boaz acknowledged her actions, saying, “But I also know everything about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband. I have heard how you left your father and mother and your own land to live here among strangers.”
He then blessed her with these kind words, “May the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge, reward you fully for what you have done.”
Boaz’s words focused solely on her actions, not her appearance. As the narrative progresses, she becomes the great-grandmother of King David, ensuring her name is forever linked in the maternal lineage of Jesus, the Son of God.
2.2 Abigail
Abigail, a wise and beautiful woman, was married to a foolish man named Nabal. Despite David’s request for kindness towards his men, Nabal insulted and showed contempt towards him when David’s men were near Nabal’s shepherds.
Infuriated by Nabal’s behavior, David intended to retaliate by attacking Nabal and his family. Nabal’s servants warned Abigail of David’s plan. In a bold move, Abigail decided to intervene and met David with gifts to dissuade him from his vengeful intentions.
Abigail approached the situation diplomatically, persuading David that becoming the king of Israel without bloodshed would be the wisest path. Impressed by her wisdom, David accepted the gifts and spared Nabal’s life. After Nabal’s death, David praised the Lord for preventing him from seeking revenge.
2.3 Rebekah
Paul in his letter to Titus writes, “Our people must learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others” (Titus 2:14). Doing good entails meeting the needs of others, Rebekah found favor with God when she met the needs of Abraham’s servant.
Not only did she provide him with water to drink, she offered draw water for his camels until they had enough to drink (Genesis 24: 18-19). She met the needs of Abraham’s servant which thus made her stand out to become the maternal choice of building the nation of Israel.
Abraham’s servant bowed down, worshiped and praised God soon after witnessing the good deeds Rebekah had done (Genesis 24:26). This signifies that a woman’s attractiveness through doing good brings glory and praise to God.
3. How To Become An Attractive Woman?
Contrary to popular belief, an attractive woman is one that fears the Lord. Proverbs 31: 30-31 reads:
Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.
A woman’s praise is derived from fearing the Lord, and doing deeds that shows her devotion to God.
Like Rahab, though she was a prostitute, her good deed of hiding the spies saved her and her family’s life because she was believed that the Lord of Israel is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below (Joshua 2:11).
Her act of showing kindness to the spies was out of her understanding and fear of the LORD of Israel.
In all these examples the common thread that makes women stand out is what they do. This is in line with Jesus teaching about being the salt of the earth and the light of the world – that our good deeds must stand out for others to see (Matthew 5:16).

Women like Mother Teresa will always be remembered for her good deeds, she maintained her relevance even at her old age through charitable works that drew thousands of people to become generous and kind to those in need.
Her good deeds drew people to believe in God as her acts of kindness were fuelled by her belief and trust in God.
Additionally, the gospel of Luke makes mention of women who supported Jesus and his disciples.
Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s business manager; Susanna; and many others who were contributing from their own resources to support Jesus and his disciples. Luke 8:3
These women were deemed attractive hence why their names were worth mentioning in Scripture. This also applies to women like Phoebe who was helpful to Paul (Romans 16:1-2), Priscilla and Aquila who risked their lives for Paul (Romans 16:3) and many others. These women’s names will always be remembered for what they did and not their looks.
4. Final Remarks On How To Become An Attractive Woman
The true essence of attractiveness is reflected through our actions. Women were not solely created for their physical beauty; rather, they embody aspects of the feminine nature of God through kindness, compassion, and assistance, setting a remarkable example.
Similarly, men exhibit traits like sacrifice in battle, protection, and courage – representing masculine attributes of God.
These divine qualities, which can be more pronounced in each gender, bring glory and praise to God when displayed. It is His power within us that guides our behavior, reflecting His presence in our lives.
