Double portion blessing

How To Receive A Double Portion Blessing And More

The Scriptures reference the concept of a double portion blessing. In this article, I will reveal the secret to receiving a double portion of anything that pertains to your life. The idea of a double portion is highlighted in the book of Isaiah:

Isaiah 61:7 NLT

Instead of shame and dishonor, you will enjoy a double share of honor. You will possess a double portion of prosperity in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.

It is important to understand that for every promise God makes through His word, there is a fundamental law that governs the fulfillment of that promise. By faith, we believe in His promises because God cannot lie. But to manifest God’s promises in our lives, we must uncover take the steps to engage the governing principles that bring them into a physical or even spiritual manifestation.

During the latter part of his life, Job received double of what he had lost when God allowed Satan to afflict him (Job 42:10). God’s remark gives us clues into what made job an honorable recipient of God’s double blessing.

Job 42:7-8 NLT

After the LORD had finished speaking to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite: “I am angry with you and your two friends, for you have not spoken accurately about me, as my servant Job has. So take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and offer a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer on your behalf. I will not treat you as you deserve, for you have not spoken accurately about me, as my servant Job has.”

From this Scripture it is evident that the double portion blessing is actuated by two fundamental principles.

1. Speak Accurately About God

God was pleased with Job’s portrayal of Him, especially when compared to the views of his friends. While his friends failed to accurately represent God, Job remained steadfast in testifying and acknowledging God, even amid his hardships and their opposing arguments.

God took great pleasure in having Job as His representative, which was one of the key reasons for his double blessing.

To accurately speak about God, one must nurture a sincere and profound relationship with Him. This relationship is cultivated through studying His word, meditation, prayer, and fasting. Such practices build a strong conviction to believe in Him and to testify about Him truthfully.

1.1 Illustrating The Principle Through Joseph’s Life

Joseph’s life exemplifies this principle perfectly. Even when he lost the opportunity to work in Potiphar’s house, he continued to represent God faithfully. While interpreting the dreams of the cupbearer and the baker, he stated in Genesis 40:8, “Interpreting dreams is God’s business.”

When called before Pharaoh to interpret his dream, Joseph credited God, asserting that only God could reveal the meaning of Pharaoh’s dream and bring him peace (Genesis 41:16). As a result, he received a more than double portion of honor, becoming second-in-command over all of Egypt.

1.3 The Faithful Report of Joshua and Caleb

Similarly, Joshua and Caleb provided an accurate report when tasked with scouting the land God had promised to the children of Israel. Their testimony reflected their faith in God, as they boldly stated that the giants occupying the land, which God had promised them, were merely helpless before God (Numbers 14:9).

After the entire generation that left Egypt passed away, Caleb remained alive. His faithful report earned him a double portion of blessing, including an extraordinary measure of strength, even in his old age.

Joshua 14:11 NLT

Today I am eighty-five years old. I am as strong now as I was when Moses sent me on that journey, and I can still travel and fight as I could then.

Caleb’s renewed strength came from his trust in the Lord, which was rooted in a deep and intimate relationship with Him.

2. Forgiveness

In God’s kingdom, forgiveness holds a place of utmost significance. The fifth beatitude states, “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” Mercy embodies the act of forgiveness. The Bible recounts how, when Job prayed for his friends, God restored his fortunes.

Job 42:10 (NLT)
When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before!

Lack of forgiveness restricts what God is able to accomplish in your life. It is essential to recognize that God has forgiven us so that we can reflect His character by extending forgiveness to others.

Colossians 3:13 (NLT)
Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

By forgiving, we accurately represent the nature of God, as one of His defining attributes is the forgiveness of our sins (Psalm 103:3).

3. Relentless Pursuit For God

The Bible tells the story of a request made by Elisha to the prophet Elijah, asking for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit (2 Kings 1:9). The foundation for the granting of Elisha’s request was his unwavering commitment to pursue his master. As Elijah prepared to ascend to heaven, Elisha was determined to remain by his side, never leaving his sight.

Elisha followed Elijah as he journeyed to Bethel, then to Jericho, and across the Jordan River, demonstrating his relentless dedication. Ultimately, the spirit of Elijah came to rest upon Elisha. The lesson here is to pursue God with the same intensity, never straying from His presence.

John, the disciple of Jesus, had the remarkable privilege of witnessing the transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain alongside Peter and James. Notably, John was the only disciple who remained with Jesus even during the crucifixion.

Fast forward, John’s relentless pursuit and his commitment to staying in Jesus’ presence and pursuing the things of God granted him the extraordinary favor of the revelation of the end times. This revelation is recorded in the book of Revelation, where John experienced visions of what is yet to come.

He was blessed to see Jesus transfigured, and by remaining in His presence, he was granted even more insight into the glorified Jesus in heaven, the New Jerusalem, and all that is destined to unfold in this world. The following Scripture written by David illustrate the importance of pursuing God and staying in His presence, for all things are found in Him.

Psalm 27:4 NLT

The one thing I ask of the Lord— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.

4. Final Remarks On A Double Portion Blessing

In conclusion, the journey to receiving a double portion is deeply intertwined with our relationship with God and our understanding of His principles. By speaking accurately about God, as demonstrated by Job, we align ourselves with His truth.

Through forgiveness, we embody God’s mercy and open our lives to the double portion blessing. And by relentlessly pursuing Him, we mirror the devotion of Elisha and John, positioning ourselves for profound spiritual insights and blessings.

These principles—accurate testimony, forgiveness, and relentless pursuit—create a fertile ground for God’s promises to manifest in our lives. As we cultivate a sincere and profound relationship with God through His word, prayer, and meditation, we position ourselves to receive not just a double portion, but a life enriched with spiritual depth and eternal joy.

May we be inspired to embrace these principles wholeheartedly, trusting that in doing so, we will experience the double portion blessing that God has promised.
