In this article I’d like to share a profound understanding that each Christ follower should deeply understand. It’s about the believer’s authority in Christ. If you want to live a life of victory and dominion, it’s imperative to understand your position in the Kingdom of God today. This is one article that the enemy will not like you to read, but I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide us through this life changing information about the believer’s authority in Christ.
1. What Does It Mean To Be In Christ?
To be in Christ is a spiritual phenomenon where an individual is spiritually in Christ. If you have been born again, you are in Christ. Whether you feel like it or not, you are in Christ. So this begs the question, what is the significance of being in Christ?
2. What Is The Significance Of Being In Christ
To address this question, we must first establish Christ’s current location today. The Bible records that Jesus was born into this world, crucified, resurrected on the third day, and then ascended to heaven to be with the Father. Presently, He is seated at the right hand of God. The Scripture below confirms that Jesus is seated:
Hebrews 1:3 NLT
The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.
Believers undergo a similar process, we are born into the physical earth, then we have a spiritual birth. This spiritual birth encompasses dying to the self or dying to the flesh, and we begin to live in Christ.
Galatians 2:20 NLT
My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Christ living in us is a remarkable phenomenon. This means we have the fullness of God, through Christ, living in us. Additionally, it implies that Christ has occupied every part that constitutes to our inner being: our hearts, our minds, and our souls.
3. Christ In Our Hearts, Minds, And Souls
As a digression, having Christ in our hearts, minds and souls means that we can fulfill the commandment that Jesus said is the most important.
Matthew 22:37-38 NLT
You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.
4. The Prayer Of Jesus
Now, returning to the topic, Jesus prayed for all believers to be in him.
John 17:21 NLT
I pray that they will be one, just as you and I are one – as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.
Truly we are in Christ, we are seated with Christ at the right hand of God. And here is the mind blowing result of being in Christ: We have authority over all things as revealed in this Scripture:
1 Peter 3:22 NLT
Now Christ has gone to heaven. He is seated in the place of honor next to God, and all the angels and authorities and powers accept his authority.
I danced in joy the first time I had this revelation! This means the believer operates from a point of advantage. Everything, sickness, poverty, authorities, and more is beneath us as we are above it all in Christ.
Dear reader, all attacks from the enemy have no power to subdue you. Because you have the authority over them simply by being in Christ.
Luke 10:19 NLT
Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.
5. Resisting The Enemy By Being In Christ
Understand that the enemy is very rebellious and he’ll keep taunting us. But the Bible in James 4:7 says, “Resist the devil, and he will flee.”
We resist the devil by being established in Christ, there is no other position in this life that can make us immune to the threats of the enemy except we be in Christ.
But the enemy’s attacks are not just external, they are internal too, through our minds, hearts and souls.
1 Peter 2:11 NLT
Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.
6. The Authority Of The Believer In Christ
In our digression earlier we established that Jesus Christ has made residence in our mind, hearts and souls. Therefore we are in Christ, who is seated at the right hand of God, and Christ is also in us, he encompasses both the external and internal aspects of our lives and being. Below is a diagram to illustrate this concept.

Believers are in Christ where Christ is represented by the blue light, we are in him. Being positioned in Christ means we are above all things, including sicknesses, lack, addiction and more. We operate from the highest realm in the entire heavens and universe.
Christ also resides is in our hearts, minds and souls as annotated in the diagram. Below are the Scriptures that affirm that Christ dwells in our very inner being:
The Heart
- In Ephesians 3:17, Paul’s prayer highlights that the empowerment of the Spirit brings Christ in our hearts. “Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.”
The Mind
- 1 Corinthians 2:16 reads, “we have the mind of Christ”, that enables us to understand the thoughts of God.
The Soul
- 1 Peter 2:25 reads, “Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.”
Our lives and beings our surrounded and infused by the light of Jesus Christ who is above all things. We have been called to a higher life, far above tribulations, sickness, anger, you name it. This the dominion, victory and power we have in Christ.
7. Final Remarks
Dear reader this is proof that Christ occupies and guards our inner being, the heart, the mind, and the soul.
The devil has no grounds to occupy the thoughts, heart and soul of a believer. We have authority to cast him out. He comes kill, still and destroy but when we are in Christ and have him in us, we can resist his advances.
Mark 16:17 NLT
These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages.
Understand that any lack, worry in your life is trespassing, as it does not need to have any manifestation through you since you are in Christ and he is in you. Exercise the authority and power given unto you by Christ Jesus to cast all things from the enemy that have rebelliously taken residence in your life.
Do not compromise with the enemy, insist that that he be cast out from your life and keep praying in the name of Jesus Christ. Eventually, he will flee.
