Today, on Mother’s Day, we honor mothers around the world for their unwavering love and dedication to their children. In light of this special occasion, I wanted to write an article that offers insights into the life of Mary, the mother of Jesus. I will highlight some of the remarkable qualities Mary exemplified in her role as a mother and explore how we can draw inspiration from her life to enrich our own. As a mother myself, it brings me immense joy to share the revelations I’ve discovered through reflection on the Scriptures and Mary’s life on what motherhood entails.
1. Mother’s Are Servants Of God
When the angel of the Lord told Mary she would conceive a baby, and he will be called the Son of God, Mary believed. She responded in Luke 1:38, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.”
Firstly, she humbly acknowledged that her purpose is to serve the will of God by citing that she is the Lord’s servant. Thereafter, she declared that all what the angel had told her to manifest in real life.
We can see from this interaction that motherhood is about birthing the purposes and will of God into life. Mary, like all mothers, is a channel through which what is in heaven is brought to earth. Our children existed before the beginning of time; God already knew us all before we were formed in the womb. Motherhood is the manifestation of that which already exist spiritually to have an expression in the physical world.
2. Motherhood Is a Call To Channel The Glory Of God
It is a divine honor that God has chosen women to be the bearers of new life. This new life is filled with untapped potential and glory yet to be revealed.
Mary played a pivotal role in revealing Jesus’s glory (John 2:11). She encouraged Him to perform His first miracle: transforming water into wine.
Mary demonstrated that the role of a mother is to usher their children into realizing their potential. She recognized that Jesus was the Son of God, destined for greatness, including being the savior of the world.

We are called to be the salt and light of the world; motherhood involves the responsibility of nurturing and encouraging your children to step forward and shine, bringing glory to God. Once the children have been incubated long enough, they are meant to be delivered into the world, both literally and metaphorically.
3. Mothers Allow Their Children To Fulfill Their Divine Purpose
The world can often seem dark and unforgiving. Sadly, children will inevitably face hardships as they navigate their interactions with others. A mother’s role is to remain steadfast by her children’s side, no matter what challenges they may encounter. Just as Mary stood by the cross during Jesus’s crucifixion (John 19:25).
This would’ve been a deeply traumatic and painful experience to witness. However, it’s essential to recognize that God frequently uses life’s difficulties to reveal His strength. Ultimately, children belong to God; we are merely stewards and channels through which His purpose is revealed.
Rest assured that no matter what challenges your children may face, their Father in Heaven will ultimately use those situations—no matter how difficult—to fulfill His divine purpose.
4. Final Remarks On Mary
As we celebrate Mother’s Day, let us honor the remarkable women who channel the love and glory of God through nurturing their children to become the salt and light of the earth. Mary believed the message of God concerning the baby she would conceive. She stood by him even through death on the cross, thus, demonstrating the unwavering devotion a mother has over their child’s life.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the extraordinary mothers, who were favored, entrusted and chosen to bring individuals who bear the very image of God and glorify Him.
