Many individuals aspire to be famous, driven by a psychological need for recognition and honor. This article explores the concept of fame from a biblical perspective.
We will examine notable figures from both the Bible who attained fame, helping us uncover the mysteries of fame within the Kingdom of God.
1. What Is Fame?
According to Merriam Webster’s dictionary, fame is the state of being widely known or recognized, public estimation, reputation, or popular acclaim.
Jesus referred to “Kingdom fame” in the sermon on the Mount at length about fame. In Matthew 5:14–16, Jesus said:
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
In the Kingdom of God, true fame is rooted in good deeds. Those who accomplished remarkable things in the Bible have books named in their honor, and their life stories are thoroughly documented.
Esther, Isaiah, Samuel, and numerous others serve as perfect examples. Their great deeds brought glory and honor to God, proving that God is LORD of all.
Therefore, the purpose of Kingdom fame is to glorify God, and it’s achieved by acts of doing good, they are acts acceptable and pleasing to God.
2. Examples Of Good Deeds That Made People Famous
2.1 Jesus
Jesus’ fame stemmed from the good deeds he performed, as all his actions brought glory to the Father. John 17:4 reads, “I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.”
He performed many miraculous acts, preached the gospels, healed the sick and many marvelous deeds.
Acts 10:38 NLT
“And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.”
2.2 The Woman With The Alabaster Jar
In the Mark 14:6, a woman with an alabaster jar anointed Jesus with costly perfume. While some criticized this act as wasteful, Jesus praised her, stating that she was performing a good deed. He went on to suggest that her good actions would be remembered forever.
Mark 14:9 NLT
“I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be remembered and discussed.“
The woman’s name remains unknown, yet her noble act is recorded in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. As believers, we uncover mysteries and insights about the Kingdom, through her good deeds, guiding us on how to lead a life that glorifies God.
2.3 Solomon
Solomon was the wisest man during his time, his wisdom made him so famous that kings and queens sought after him to hear his wisdom and great insights.
1 Kings 4:31 NLT
“He was wiser than anyone else, including Ethan the Ezrahite and the sons of Mahol—Heman, Calcol, and Darda. His fame spread throughout all the surrounding nations.“
The bible goes on to list all his good deeds, such as writing proverbs and songs, his wisdom about plant, small creatures, fish, birds and more (1 Kings 4:32-34).
Solomon’s acts of wisdom garnered praise to God. The Queen of Sheba upon hearing the wisdom of Solomon gave praise to God.
1 Kings 10:9 NLT
“Praise the Lord your God, who delights in you and has placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king so you can rule with justice and righteousness.”
Solomon’s fame brought glory to God as his wisdom and good deeds radiated the light of God that shined upon his life.
3. The Nature of Fame
There are numerous qualities that define the nature and character of fame within the kingdom of God. Below, I outlined several of them. Notable individuals often exhibit remarkable traits, inspiring ideas, creativity, impressive strength, and a willingness to make sacrifices.
They exceed the average, showcasing something profoundly unique. Their creations, ideas, and innovations can only be divinely inspired and orchestrated. Nicodemus recognized that God’s influence was evident in Jesus through his remarkable actions:
John 3:2 NLT
“He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with Him.”
This concept also holds true for renowned geolocations around the world, such as waterfalls, lakes, beaches, mountains, and more. They draw numerous visitors due to their remarkable beauty, showcasing the artistry of God.
The same applies to buildings and other magnificent man-made creations; they all honor God. These structures illustrate how individuals, inspired by divine empowerment, can create things that are much larger than themselves.

4. The Caveat to Fame
The enemy consistently seeks to distort the glory intended for God. This is often achieved by leading people to seek glory for themselves rather than attributing it to God. Remember, all glory belongs to God—every bit of it! Every aspect of creation exists to honor and glorify Him.
Psalm 66:4
Everything on earth will worship you; they will sing your praises, shouting your name in glorious songs.
The longing for fame and recognition was the reason Satan was expelled from heaven, as only God is worthy of such praise (Isaiah 14:12-15). He also tempted Jesus to kneel and worship him, demonstrating his intention to usurp the glory that rightfully belongs to God (Matthew 4:8).
Any commendable good deeds should be attributed to God, who has given us the strength to perform such acts.
Philippians 2:13 NLT
“For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.“
5. Final Remarks
Being famous in the Kingdom seeks to glorify God through good works. Any acts that bring glory to the Father are pleasing to Him. The purpose of people becoming famous is that all others should bear witness to the power of God at work within them. This is how God partners with people to bring glory and honor to His name.
1 Kings 10:1 NLT
When the queen of Sheba heard of Solomon’s fame, which brought honor to the name of the Lord, she came to test him with hard questions.
