Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount touched on the importance about worrying. Worry is something that ails most of us, and in this article, I’ll share some profound biblical truths on how to live a worry-free life
At the time of writing this article, many across the globe are worried about the state of politics and the economy as the US has raised tariffs against several countries.
This made me to ponder over the life of Jesus while on earth, he came at a time when Israel was under Roman rulership. Yet in all the Gospels he was unfazed by who was in power, he was never in panic or anxious about anything. Join me as we delve into the life of Jesus to uncover the Kingdom key to a worry-free life.
1. What Is Worry
Worry stems from a place of uncertainty. Life is filled with unknowns, which can lead to anxiety and panic about what lies ahead. This concern often originates from imagining future issues, resulting in anxiety and distress in the present.
2. What Causes Worry
Jesus implied that only unbelievers are plagued with worry. Citing this,
Matthew 6:31-32 NLT
‘So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows your needs.”
Worry serves as a sign of disbelief; thus, to address worry, we must find the remedy for unbelief.
3. How To Live Worry-Free
Jesus posed a question about worry, reminding us that if God adorns the lilies of the field so beautifully, He will undoubtedly take care of us. He follows this with another question: “Why do you have such little faith?” Thus, the remedy for unbelief is to have big faith.

3.1 Faith
Faith comes by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17). Therefore, the secret key to living worry-free lies in deepening your relationship with God by simply meditating on His word as this strengthens your belief and faith in Him.
We have established that worry stems from a desire for certainty, which often arises from a lack of knowledge about the one that is always certain- God. The more your faith increases, the less worrisome you become.
Romans 5:2 NLT
“Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.”
Our faith in God has brought us into a place of undeserved privilege, this place is the full presence of God – the Kingdom of God. In His presence there is joy, not worry.
Psalm 21:6 NLT
“You have endowed him with eternal blessings and given him the joy of your presence.”
3.2 Seek the Kingdom
In Matthew 6:33 Jesus declares that we must seek the kingdom of God, above all else – including certainty, and live righteously, and He will provide everything you need.
The essence of pursuing the kingdom of God lies in strengthening your faith in Him. As you strive to deepen your relationship with Him and immerse yourself in His presence, worry becomes nullified, as it does not originate from God.
3.3 Pray
Paul wrote in Philippians 4:6, “Do not worry about anything, instead pray about everything.” A lifestyle of prayer dissipates worry completely. When we pray, God gives us the comfort we need amidst troubled times.
In deep sorrow and anguish over his impending crucifixion, Jesus turned to God in prayer and was comforted by the angels that appeared to him in the Garden of Gethsemane (Luke 22:43).
While the circumstances that bring us worry and anxiety may not disappear, God’s comfort provides us with the strength to persevere through them, just as Jesus bore the cross until his final breath.
Isaiah 40:31 NLT
“But those who trust in the LORD will receive new strength.”
Having faith and trusting God provides us with renewed strength and empowerment through the Spirit, enabling us to persevere through difficult times. Consequently, when we face challenging situations, we are equipped with divine strength to confront and navigate through them.
4. How Does God Give You Everything You Need?
God does not provide your future needs today, rather he provides today’s needs, today. When the need arises, the provision is made available.
Matthew 6:11 NLT
“Give us today, the food we need.”
God consistently provides what we need at the perfect moment each day. The provisions for tomorrow will arrive when the need arises, which is why Jesus told us not to worry about everyday life.
Jesus never stressed about the location of the Last Supper. However, when the time came for it to take place, everything needed was provided.
Furthermore, the prophecy in Zechariah 9:9 predicted that Jesus would make his entrance into Jerusalem riding on a colt. Remarkably, Jesus never worried about where or how he would acquire the colt. Yet, when the need for a donkey emerged, the colt was readily available.
5. Final Remarks
Living a worry-free life doesn’t imply that we shouldn’t be diligent or plan for our future. Scripture guides us to embrace wisdom in our daily lives.
Ephesians 5:15-17 NLT
“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly but understand what the Lord wants you to do.”
Staying in the presence of God through prayer, worship and meditation our faith builds and is proof we are living by the Spirit’s power. In His presence we are guaranteed to be worry-free, therefore we must seek God daily, meditate on His word and pray continually (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
